Oxidative stress refers to a condition in the body that occurs when there is an imbalance in the production of reactive oxygen species (free radicals) and antioxidants that have the ability to destroy these free radicals. Free radicals can damage cells, leading to disease and faster aging. Therefore, by maintaining a balance, antioxidants protect the body from damage.

Symptoms of oxidative stress include feelings of exhaustion, problems with concentration, a weakened immune system or impaired memory.

Causes of oxidative stress include smoking, bad diet, polluted environment, excessive alcohol consumption, as well as chronic stress.
