Dysbiosis describes an imbalance in the composition of the gut microbiota. A balanced microbiome is very important for the proper functioning of the body, and its disturbance can lead to digestive disorders.

Causes
There are several causes of dysbiosis. Ranging from a poorly balanced diet or chronic stress to more serious ones such as chronic diseases (such as inflammatory bowel disease or irritable bowel syndrome) or infections. Imbalanced microbiome can also be a side effect of antibiotic use.

Symptoms
Symptoms of dysbiosis include digestive disorders such as bloating, diarrhoea or flatulence, skin conditions such as eczema or acne and can also affect mental health such as anxiety, stress or fatigue.

Treatment
Treating dysbiosis involves addressing the underlying causes, based on that can be determined further treatment. Examples of treatments used for dysbiosis are enriching the diet with probiotics, avoiding high processed foods, and including regular physical activity.
